Congratulations
to Mike and Kim Elmo for winning the drawing for the commemorative quilt.
Cadet Mike accepts the quilt from Cadet Ed after the drawing. The drawing was held during the break between the TC panel and the radio recreation. All the names of the cadets who attended the festival were placed in a bag and a festival attendee (non cadet) drew out Mike's ID badge. We look forward to seeing pictures of the Quilt on display in Mike's Rocket Room. HOW IT WAS MADE: Stage one Quilt Squares. Space scene squares were copied from a generic "space" bedspread from the 1950's. Pictures of Frankie, Jan, the two academy graphics and the "space" fabrics were created using PhotoShop. The graphics were printed directly to cotton squares using an Epson inkjet printer. The quilt was constructed from nine
(9) 7 1/2 inch squares. The squares were framed in Solar Guard Black and
Gold and the back is space black with the white stitches of the spaceman
outline showing through. The center square is the Academy Rocket emblem
outlined by machine stitching. Approximate finished size of the quilt
was 30" X 30".
